Archeologo statunitense (n. Windham, New Hampshire, 1886 - m. 1973), prof. di archeologia greca alla Columbia University di New York (dal 1935), presidente dell'Istituto archeologico d'America (1936-45); socio straniero dei Lincei (1949). Si è dedicato soprattutto a studî di architettura classica e cronologia attica (Architecture of ancient Greece, 1927; 3a ed. 1950; The archons of Athens in the hellenistic age, 1931; The Athenian archons in the light of recent discoveries, 1939; Observations on the Hephaisteion, 1940).
