Garton Ash, Timothy. – Politologo e giornalista britannico (n. Londra 1955). Docente di Studi europei alla Oxford University, ha focalizzato le sue ricerche sulla crisi dei regimi comunisti e i mutamenti geopolitici europei successivi alla caduta del Muro di Berlino. Editorialista specializzato sui temi cardinali dell'Europa centro-orientale, ha collaborato con i periodici  London Times, The Independent e The Guardian. Tra le sue pubblicazioni occorre citare: In Europe's Name: Germany and the Divided Continent (1993; trad. it. 1994); Free world: why a crisis of the West reveals the opportunity of our time, 2004 (trad. it. 2005); History of the present: essays, sketches, and dispatches from Europe in the 1990s (1999; trad. it. 2001); Free speech.
