Quennell, Peter

Poeta e critico inglese (Londra 1905 - Bickley, Kent, 1993). Esordì come poeta nel 1922 con Masques and poems, cui seguirono Poems (1926) e Inscription on a fountain head (1929), raccolte di versi eleganti e spiritosi. Professore d'inglese all'università di Tokyo nel 1930, diresse il Cornhill Magazine (1944-51) e History Today (1951-79). È noto soprattutto come esperto di Byron (The years of fame, 1935; Byron in Italy, 1941; Byron: a self-portrait, 1950) e Ruskin (John Ruskin, the portrait of a prophet, 1949). Tra gli altri scritti si ricordano: Baudelaire and the symbolists (1929); Aspects of 17^th century verse (1933); Four portraits (1945); il libro di saggi The singular preference (1952); le autobiografie The marble foot (1976) e The Wanton chase (1980).
