Scrittore inglese (Brighton, Sussex, 1892 - Montcuq, Lot, 1981). Giunse di colpo alla notorietà col romanzo Lady into fox (1923), cui seguì A man in the zoo (1924), anch'esso delicatamente fantastico. In seguito G. andò accostandosi a un piano naturalistico con The sailor's return (1925), Go she must! (1927), The old dovecote (1928), No love (1929), The grasshoppers come (1931). In A rabbit in the air (1932) raccontò le sue esperienze di tirocinio come aviatore; Pocahontas (1933) è un romanzo storico sulla prima colonizzazione della Virginia. A un nuovo racconto, Beany-eye (1935), fece seguire un libro di guerra, War in the air (1941), e una autobiografia, The golden echo (1953).
